Events Intern 

Olivia Mitchel

Class of 2021

Olivia is a sophomore from San Francisco, CA majoring in Biology with a concentration in Microbes and Immunity. Olivia also plans to complete the Notation in Science Communication. Since last spring, Olivia has worked in the Palmer Lab, where she conducts research on the effects of maternal immune activation on fetal development and health. Olivia is particularly interested in pursuing a career in surgery, but she enjoys exploring a wide variety of medical specialties. Outside of science, Olivia is a staff writer for the Stanford Daily. Olivia is also a passionate classical pianist and contemporary/jazz dancer. She is one of the musical directors for Side By Side, a singing group that performs at local nursing homes.

Events Intern

Neha Sidu

Class of 2021

Neha is a sophomore from American Canyon, CA, who is planning on majoring in Human Biology with a concentration in Biocomputation. On campus, she is a returning member to the Events committee of Stanford Synapse, a peer support group focused on supporting those who have experienced a Traumatic Brain Injury, is the director of sophomore outreach for Stanford University Dance Marathon, an annual fundraiser for the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and is a student volunteer with the Cardinal Free Clinics. This past summer, she conducted research with a Bay Area Reproductive Endocrinologist and has been working with the March of Dimes, a non-profit dedicated to improving the health of mothers and babies, for 5 years. She is also the Science and Healthcare Associate for BEAM, the office for career education. As the oldest in her family, Neha is absolutely obsessed with small kids and loves spending her time at home with her one year old baby cousin. After seeing many women in her family deal with fertility issues their entire adult lives, Neha aspires to become a Reproductive Endocrinologist in order to help families grow and support women fulfill their dreams of motherhood. Her favorite pastimes are playing tennis, sipping coffee, playing with babies, and helping her friends curl their hair.

Ilham Osman

Class of 2021

Ilham Osman is a sophomore from Clarkston, Michigan who is planning on majoring in Human Biology with a concentration in Biomedical Science. She spent last summer doing research in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology studying protein expression in Dengue Virus and HPV. Aside from research, she is also involved with the East Palo Alto Tutoring & Tennis Program and the Cardinal Free Clinics. She also is a Director for the Disrupt Diabetes Initiative. A 7-week design challenge where teams work with patients to create unique solutions to issues they see in their lives or community. She is an aspiring Pediatrician and her love for medicine stems from her passion with working with people from all walks of life, problem-solving, and working with a team of individuals who are involved in making the world a healthier place. In her free time she enjoys reading, running, traveling, and is always searching for the good coffee.

Ina Lee

Class of 2022

Ina Lee is a freshman from Fort Worth, Texas who is currently undeclared but has interests in Biology and Human Biology as potential majors. In the past, she volunteered as the Event Chair for the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Worth and worked as a teacher assistant at summer zoo camps. She has had amazing opportunities to do research on whiskey chemistry and plan chemistry demonstrations for National Chemistry Week at her local museum. Her interests in the biological sciences as well as her love of working with and caring for other people prompt her to pursue a career in medicine. In her free time, Ina enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going on walks or organizing her sweaters to destress, and listening to and making music (usually by singing either in choir or down the halls of her dorm).

Outreach Intern 

Hannah Walton

Class of 2022

Hannah is a freshman from Singapore who is planning on majoring in either Human Biology or Classics. Hannah spent last summer working as an intern at the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) working under their GERMS (GIS Efficient Rapid Microbial Sequencing) platform to run heat-killed Salmonella DNA extracts. In a previous summer, she participated in the Cardiothoracic Surgical Skills Summer Internship at Stanford, which inspired her to pursue medicine in university. Aside from being a SWIM intern, Hannah is a violinist in the Stanford Symphony Orchestra. In her free time, she loves running, drinking coffee, and spending time outdoors, preferably with dogs.

Mentorship Intern 

Caitlyn Estrada

Class of 2020

Caitlyn Estrada is a junior from Pasadena, California majoring in Biology with a concentration in Neurobiology. During her summers at home, she has spent her time as a volunteer at her local hospital in the emergency department. She has also participated in the Stanford Immersion in Medicine Series, where she was able to shadow a pediatrician at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. She plans to either go in to emergency medicine or to pursue a career as a pediatrician. Caitlyn wants to become a doctor because it would allow her to be able to make a difference in people’s lives. In her free time, Caitlyn enjoys photography, tutoring, and spending time with family and friends.

Amberly Vu

Mentorship Intern

Amberly Vu is a freshman from Fullerton, CA who is planning on majoring in Chemistry with a Biological Chemistry concentration. In addition to SWIM, she serves on the executive teams for the Stanford Undergraduate Research Association, the Stanford Premed Association, and Stanford Team HBV. Amberly is also an active volunteer as part of the Stanford Health Advocacy and Research in the Emergency Department (SHARED) program. She conducted bladder cancer lab research during high school and aims to continue doing so at Stanford. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, and running.

Abby Fleischli

Finance Intern 

Abby Fleischli is a sophomore from Dallas, Texas who is planning on majoring in Biology and minoring in Management Science and Engineering. In past summers, Abby has conducted biochemical research at Southern Methodist University on the uses of ASLOV2 flourescent proteins in drug development. On campus, Abby rides with the Stanford Equestrian Team and competes on the traveling Dressage Team. She also has enjoyed being involved in the executive team for the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity of Women as the Vice President of Administration. With her mom being a physician, Abby has grown up around medicine and is fascinated by the wonderful advances in science as well as inspired by the ability to have such a significant impact on patients’ lives. In her free time, Abby loves to spend time outside walking, running, or hiking. She is excited to be apart of the SWIM team and looks forward to events in 2019!
